Tung-Sol 6550 SOLID BLACK PLATE from 1959 - Strong 102% with orig box !

A beautiful early 1950's Tung-Sol 6550 power tube, with it's original box (box shows it's many years of age and storage). Documentation shown in photos is included. 

Study all of the photos below and view test reports. This is the first generation, introduced sometime in 1954-56 which features a 40mm black plate, and 1 large getter for the heavily flashed top, and  2x D getters tucked in at the side!  These early examples are sought after now almost 60 years old! ... 3 getters in all , super thick, SHINNY mirror-like mirror flashing on the top early BLACK on a shinny nickle  metal base. It presents beautifully.

The original box is included, looks nice and complete, and very, very old..

The glass envelop is, clear. The White ink is half worn on the nickle base, but still mostly readable (see exhinit D,E,F) . This very old tube has the top etched 6550 letters. The side flashing shows some halo effect, along with mild browning indicating some hours of use. The tests indicate still strong function and OK remaining life (see test reports (exhibit B, C,D,E). It sounded very nice. 

Yes indeed, they are the real McCoy that everybody wants. Solid black plate examples are seldom found in this condition -- probably the prettiest and most throughly tested one anywhere.  

When I played ... it sounded really wonderful, and very well broken in at this stage a very good tube to enjoy daily in your amp or preamp  ---- guaranteed NO DOA.  This one tube will provide the tone you can rely only on very old Tung-Sol, vintage USA original quality for.

If you are currently using a modern reproduction, this is far better than you could even imagine .  

  Verified ... No noise, great function, in circuit.  NO SHORTS, all units checked perfect beyond 2 megohms in Jackson machine. ) Tests made in multiple calibrated testers, MATCHING done on a calibrated lab tester. Completely ip & GM Transconductance measured on an AT1000 (see Reports in exhibit A,B, & F) . Screened 3 times, NO SHORTS.

For easy reference,  view Exhibit B for ACTUAL tube under a full load Dynamic Emmisions test ...   ...  it's exam scored well... a  102% level of indication ( minimum accepted is = 70 )  indicating good GM & Plate current performance. 

If this 1950's USA original, then I'm sure your aware that modern re-issues are not made in the USA and are only copies from the eastern-bloc Europe (or Russia).  

 The Solid, BLACK, SMOOTH plate construction give these  guaranteed Mid- 1950s date of production. Tung-Sol designed the 6550 tube like no other -- and unlike lot's of other cold-war design output tubes ..... they were made intentionally for 1950's HiFi, high power audio reproduction = better bass and lots of throaty midrange, and very defined highs.

Audiophiles have known for a long time that earliest possible 6550's are the ones to own.  The original production design (introduced by Tung-Sol in the early 1950's), will outlast and outperform, and of course sound better than typical slipshod re-issues or reproductions of any similar design. 

These now antique tubes were made to the highest 1950's US quality standards .... and Tung-Sol's have a wonderfuly accurate sound quality, with amazing resolution & powerful bass control -- a signature of the 6550 pentode. The 6550 was part of the twilight ... the last harrah of powerful pentodes! Tung Sol, an old world industry giant. And was an artisian company when it came to tubes! Really they were a laboratory engaged in produciton ---  really next to Western Electric in quality control and ethics!  Located in New Jersey, and  they did not survive in the tube audio business much beyond the late 1960s era ... they lost out to industry giants as the solid state era ushered in -- destroying the market for perfect tubes! (They're excellent transistors didn't sell well.)

 The  nickle plated base is very tight, and Key is in excellent shape.

 These vintage 6550's are the kings of hifi pentodes -  owners will hear enhanced clarity, great tone, and punchy bass.
