This wire is the real thing, made by Western Electric in the 1940s. It will sell out quickly.
Shielded wire was developed by Bell Labs, the audio research arm of Western Electric during the 1920s. They refined the idea of shielded audio wire -- which was then manufactered by Western Electric for use anywhere high quality audio transmission, broadcast or reproduction was needed at distance. Using their vast resources, no expense was sparred during production -- resulting in a top quality wire for audio uses. This long ago, naural materials were used -- Cotton, paper, and copper!
By the 1940s, all audio companies used the technology, RCA, Altec, Collins and other for broadcast recording, and by other manufacturers of high quality like Lansing (prewar), Jensen, and for equalization, phono connections and associated apparatus meant to carry High Fidelity audio.
This section is about 2 meters in length (about 7ft +) long (documents shown are included, WECO spool itself is not) and surviving in good shape. The internal solid cloth conductors designed for high quality audio or other signals, and any distance. This wire would be excellent for phono - to preamp, or amplifier to preamp interconnects.... the real McCoy, from the 1940s. . 2 insulated wires + one ground (uninsulated, tinned) .....-- the outer shielded sheath is also usable for a ground. The individual wires are high quality solid conductor, tinned. (Great for use as interconnect or phono) (For speaker wire, it's best to use non shielded / stranded, see our other PhotoPhone wire in another listing.)
Measure first for your use, as it's quite thick, yet moderately flexible still, and able to hold a shape only if sharply bent. The overall length is for this piece is in the photo. Tough to find cloth shielded wire so nicely surviving ! Sounds great, perfect for between your audio components. You can ground or balance this wire, with the 3rd conductor or, and you can also, if you want...ground the shielded braid too.
It's all original, so there may be signs of light dirt, staining or fading, please study photos and Exhibit (E).
Generally wire like this fell out of production, after WWII, as the ability to synthesize rubbers and PVC, replaced cloth and rayon as wire insulation of choice. In retrospec, it's now considered superior to seek out certain fabric materials. Not just for the natural anti-static properties, but also because it looks much nicer, and the older slow draw copper is one of the best kept secrets in vintage audio. It's why so many advance audiophiles seek out just this type of original wire. The copper back then was different. It sounds nice, neutral, detailed, with out coloration like you get from some modern wire.
This vintage wire dating from the late 1930's-1940s was carefully reclaimed from vintage broadcast audio equipment. If you need 3 conductors, individually then jump on this section --- most are only two and it's rare to find this configuration.
Original wires like this sell quickly.
Check my 100% feedback (check over what buyers have to say ... they love vintage wire for it's tone-neutral characteristics and I get allot of repeat customers ) ...always fast shipping, and always safe double box packing !!
100% happiness assured on all old audio items.
