matched pair of Altec 329A horns. Nice original condition (see exhibit A, B, F, H) -- there is a faint patina, and light streaking ... these feature the original Altec Shadow Grey paint -- minor blemish normal for their age. They were carefully stored by 2nd owner for many years. Complete, solid, no problems.

A nicely matched beautiful pair -- rarely seen surviving -- Altec 329A horns. One of Altec's largest cast aluminum. And the finest ever quality horn of this type by far. Thorough build with high quality heavy materials. One of Altec's few 1950s / 60 / 70's developed designs ... really a flagship, world class HF product. Not since Western Electric's contracted KS-spec production, like the 31A and early 32 horns, and rare sectorial 811A)  did they make the aluminum so thick!)

Also, thanks to their unique size and design features -- including the eccentric, exponential flare (for consistant frequency response) , and center braces (dead quiet horn ..almost no ringing) ... these were the best sounding cast horns Altec made, and in the most desireable type, equipped the larger diameter Altec Lansing standard configuration.... these horns were designed to outperform previous designs, their specialty being a nice, throaty, rich &  realistic reaching projection.

Cosmetics are nice. There is a faint patina, and only light streaking in  a few spots -- they're amazingly nice (see Exhibit F, D, C) ... these feature the original Altec Shadow Grey paint -- normal for their age. They were carefully stored by 2nd owner for many years.

They boasted impressive specs on paper too, with a Horz 90 x 40 vert beam, and a wondeful low cutoff point of 220hz!

These would be great horns to utilize all of the worlds best drivers - many of these will simply bolt right on the large Altec pattern. The 2" throat size encompases many of the world's best drivers.... intended uses for all the best Altec's ... the 288-16(G), Altec 288 Hollywood. These horns were also adapted to the 730A driver, which is a nice sounding phenolic, related to the Western Electric 720 / aka BeachMaster.  Potential uses  with adaption include larger drivers yet, like Western Electric 594 (adapter needed), RCA Phenolics (MI-9xxx series).

For those who really wish to push this horn's amazingly low cutoff, you could perhaps try: Tad 4001, Yamaha / Myer MS-1401, or several other modern high efficiency types.

Altec's original idea, to produce a top-of-the-line cast, non-cellular option for audio facilities, thus seeking the cleanest audio, in smaller dimesions. They did not sell well for sound fill back in the 60's / early 70s; and as the heaviset castings that Altec made -- they were simply to costly -- few were ever sold -- and hardly any exist today.

Of course, this makes them greatly suited for in home HiFi use. Which is why they are sought after desperately by collectors and audiophiles worldwide.

As seen in Exhibit G, each horn comes equipped with #30937 throat.

The density of the aluminum and the front & center bracing ensures, that (unlike other Altec / JBL / Ampex thinner types) ... these have almost NO RINGING. For larger drivers in your system, these are once of the few high performance AND  resonably sized choices.  These horns sound unsusually smooth and full -- a quality not normally associated with horns! Coupled with a high quality Altec 288 or 291 driver -- you're in for a nice setup.

They are the real thing -- made in USA --- and from the very 1960's -- early 70s era!   They sound wonderful  and will sell very quickly because of the scarcity.
